Atlanta Jugglers Association

Meeting #1

December 3, 1977

Before the meeting could get underway, Dwight Ross Jr. from the Journal/Constitution came by to take photos. Everyone moved outside and before long a camera truck from TV Channel 5 was on hand too.  Following the media attention, the business meeting began inside the Performing Arena. About 29 people were present.

Rodger French called the meeting to order and explained the purpose of the AJA to the assembly. He said the AJA was being formed to get jugglers together, put out a newsletter with pertinent juggling information and spread the job of juggling to the people of Atlanta. Rodger explained that as an official, chartered non-profit organization, the AJA might obtain city grants for juggling events.

The AJA proposed bylaws were reviewed and approved by the group on hand. George Fox, Georgia Volunteer Lawyers Association member who drew up the bylaws, explained the implications of our non-profit status.

Everyone introduced themselves and the floor was opened for the nomination of officers. Election results were as follows:

            President – Rodger French

            Vice President/Treasurer – Louis Zeller

Secretary – Bill Giduz

Board of Directors at Large – Tex Clyde

                                                            David Head

                                                            Toni Shifalo

                                                            Gretta Keene

The assembly approved a recommendation of a $5 annual membership fee and Louis started collecting dues. Rodger pointed out classes for young jugglers that have started on Thursday nights at Moreland Avenue School and said anyone could come. The group discussed equipment and where to get it.

Rodger told the group he has written a letter to the International Jugglers Association asking them to sanction our group. We talked briefly about the next IJA convention in Eugene, Oregon.

George Fox was unanimously named as an honorary member of the AJA.

Meeting adjourned, followed by a board of directors meeting.
