Riding the Silver Comet Trail

Eight of us rode the Silver Comet Trail on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002 from Dallas, GA to Coot's Lake and back (about 27 miles altogether).  It was a cool, cloudy day and perfect for bike riding.  Andy rode 40 miles in the morning, then joined Jay, Liz, Telle, Charles and me at the Dallas Chamber of Commerce parking lot at noon for the ride with our group.

Charles rode his fold-up commuter bike and led the group in both directions.  Laura and Gordon overslept and caught up with us at the halfway point.  Highlights were riding over the Pumpkinvine Trestle and through Brushy Mountain Railroad Tunnel.  Charles spotted a big snake across the trail soon after we started, but it must have rethought it's position and retreated before the rest of us came along.

Afterwards Randy, Fran, Judy, Steve and Vance joined us and we all soaked in the hot tub at our house, grilled burgers and juggled fire and glow balls.  We sang happy birthday to Jay as he blew out the candles for his 52nd birthday.  (Telle, Vance and Liz are our neighbors, but they're learning to juggle so we let them in on the fun!)
